FAQ's Multiday Sailing

If there's anything that you need to make your stay more comfortable then you are welcome to bring this along. However keep in mind the less the better as we provide most essentials for you. On board you will find all bedding and linen as well as plenty of water equipment for you to enjoy during your stay (see our full inventory here).

Basic pantry supplies can be found on board for your use, meals are included by arrangement only.

Pack light and focus on comfort! Essentials include sun protection (hat, sun glasses and SPF 30+ sunscreen), swimwear, warm layers for cooler evenings, a wind-proof jacket, and any personal toiletries or medications you may need. We recommend non-slip shoes or bare feet for onboard activities.  Insect repellent and comfortable walking shoes are required if you plan to walk any part of the track.

Please bring your belongings in a soft shelled or collapsible bags, as there are no storage areas on the boat for hard shell cases.  It may be possible to store these shore side before departure.

Our catamarans are designed to offer both space and privacy. We can accommodate small groups of up to 8 guests (4 queen cabins) on board Te Harinui, or up to 6 guests (2 queen & 1 master cabin) on board Joella . If you’re celebrating a special occasion with family or friends, the entire vessel can be booked for exclusive use.

Absolutely! Our overnight sailing adventures offer something for everyone. Kids love exploring the beaches, spotting wildlife, and joining in on water activities. Our experienced team ensure that the journey is both fun and safe for all ages. We do need to know children's ages in advance so we can have appropriate sized lifejackets available.

Safety is our top priority. Our catamarans are fully equipped with life jackets, first aid kits, and safety equipment. Crew members are trained in first aid and maritime safety procedures. We also provide safety briefings before setting sail.  All vessels are Maritime New Zealand certified with annual external inspections.

Abel Tasman is home to a diverse range of marine life, including dolphins, seals, penguins, and various seabirds - you may be lucky enough to witness pods of dolphins playing near the boat or seals lounging on the rocks. Our crew will guide you to the best spots for wildlife viewing. We are Department of Conservation (DOC) approved operator for viewing marine mammals.

Yes! Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. From minimizing waste onboard to using eco-friendly products, we ensure that our trips have minimal impact on the environment. We encourage guests to practice responsible tourism and take part in our conservation efforts during the trip. If you have any further ideas to help please let us know. The carbon footprint is light and we offset our carbon emissions to 125%, we are Carbon Positive Certified business.

Definitely! No two trips are the same. We understand that every group is different, so we’re happy to tailor the experience to suit your preferences. Whether you want to focus on relaxation, adventure, or wildlife spotting, we can adjust the schedule to create your perfect trip - just talk with the skipper on the day and together make a plan.

While we monitor weather conditions closely, we always prioritize safety and comfort. In the case of unfavorable weather, we’ll adjust the route to more sheltered waters and keep you informed along the way.

Our multi-day sailing experiences are highly sought after, especially during peak season. We recommend booking as early as possible to secure your preferred dates - typically at least 3-4 months in advance for summer months. Always reach out us to check availability and we can see what we can do!  To confirm a booking a deposit payment is required.

While we encourage our guests to unplug and enjoy the natural surroundings, there are power outlets available for charging devices. However, Wi-Fi is not available, offering you the perfect opportunity to disconnect and immerse yourself in the adventure. Mobile phone coverage may be limited in some places, but if you do need to connect with the outside world just talk to the skipper and they will let you know where this is possible.

Absolutely! Abel Tasman’s waters are perfect for swimming and snorkeling. Whether you’re a seasoned swimmer or a beginner, there are plenty of safe spots to dive in and explore.  Our multiday vessels also have stand-up paddle boards for your use.

Our overnight or multiday tours are all private tours - just people from your group only.  We do not offer trips by the cabin or where we mix you with other guests not from your group.

The multiday tours promoted on our website are self-catering - you bring and prepare your own food.  However by special request we can arrange for an onboard chef who will provide and prepare your meals.  This is a higher priced tour because of the increased costs and the need for the additional person.  We will also require to reserve a cabin for the chef, so you will be restricted in the number of guest cabins available for your use.  If you do desire the catered tour please do contact us for a quote.
